As a personal preference, while I’m working on my Mac, I prefer a quiet, mostly noise free environment. No TV blaring in the background, no TWiT in a window on the Mac’s screen, no iTunes music. Quiet works for me. Much to my surprise, I found that a little noise can be beneficial, thanks to a Mac Menubar app named, appropriately, Noizio.
All Noizio does is create, well, background noise, with sounds easily selected from a drop down menu in the Menubar. The sounds include a variety of background noises, each with individual audio volume controls so you can mix and match to create a background sound environment that’s perfect for you.
Sounds include October Rain, Paris Cafe, a Thunderstorm, a Campfire, some Winter Wind, Sea Waves, River Stream, Summer Night, Sunny Day, and the all important Deep Space droning sound. All with a click to the Mac’s Menubar.
Although you can control sound volume independently for each of the background sounds, Noizo also features a full volume control, so once you’ve set the mix, you can adjust total volume as needed.
Settings are nominal with options to display in Menubar or Dock, and open when your Mac starts up. I’ve tried many different background noise machine apps, but Noizio has just the right blend of sounds and control to blend in nicely to my work environment.
