One of the more popular apps for smartphones is Instagram, a simple, elegant way to share photos and snapshots with friends. The problem with Instagram is that it only works from smartphones, not from your Mac or PC. However, the PhotoDesk app brings some of Instagram’s functionality right to your Mac.
Almost anything you can do with Instagram on your iPhone you can do with PhotoDesk on your Mac. Almost. For example, PhotoDesk lets you view, like, comment and even download photos and videos from your Instagram account. What else? Photos can be displayed on a map. View all your friends feeds, photos, comments, profiles and followers (those that are not private, of course).
PhotoDesk makes it easy to manage multiple Instagram accounts by switching users. Easily create a slide show from Instagram photos (drag and drop to save photos from the Instagram stream).
There’s no better way to browse Instagram on your Mac. You can even Like a photo without opening it up. Simply hover the Mac’s screen pointer over the photo and click the heart icon.
Photos can be synchronized to a folder on your Mac. Use PhotoDesk to follow, unfollow, and like other Instagram users and their photos.
The geomapping feature is particularly nice but only works on OS X Mavericks or Yosemite with Apple’s new Maps app installed. And, of course, you’ll need an Instagram account, and therein lies the rub. Instagram only allows iPhone and Android smartphone users to upload photos to share. You can’t upload photos from your Mac.
