When it comes to cleaning up files, caches, disk, memory, and system on a Mac, there’s no shortage of apps that do the deeds, most inexpensive, and some are free. Dr. Cleaner is free and gets a few thousand four and five star reviews from the Mac App Store. Whether or not your Mac truly, deeply, madly needs such a cleaning utility is a matter of some debate, but free is good.
Dr. Cleaner is a multi-purpose cleaning app with a wide range of options but without the corresponding complexity of such utilities. Here’s an example.
When opened, the app lives in the Mac’s Menubar so it’s easy to reach from within any Mac app. What it does is both simple and useful, and it’s about as easy as cleaning up a variety of files, cashes, disks, and memory can get.
First, select Dr. Cleaner from the Menubar and select either Memory or Disk, then click Optimize.
For Disk Cleaning, Dr. Cleaner removes a number of files your Mac can do without, including temporary logs, cache files, downloads, Mail cache, iTunes and temporary iOS files, as well as the Trash can.
For Memory Optimization, Dr. Cleaner’s one click cleaning process reclaims unused RAM on your Mac to make it available for other applications, displays real-time memory status, and displays which applications on your Mac use the most memory. This cleaning can be especially useful on Macs with less than optimal RAM.
Apple has plenty of background processes to help clean caches, logs, and the like, but that often requires leaving your Mac on all the time. Dr. Cleaner is free and does the same deeds and more but whenever it’s convenient for you.
