What’s the worst font in the world? While it’s probably the font that’s being used and it’s so bad you can’t actually read and understand the words, let’s all take a shortcut to the point and call it what it is.
If there’s a font that is almost universally hated, it’s Comic Sans, a Microsoft product, circa 1994. Comic Sans has such a bad reputation that there’s a website called Ban Comic Sans. Vincent Connare, who designed Comic Sans, tweeted this:
Why do people like to use Comic Sans?
It’s friendly, simple, unsophisticated, and it doesn’t look like anything you’re likely to see anywhere else, in print or on websites. Maybe that’s what makes it so bad.
Is there a good substitute for Comic Sans?
Yes. It’s called Comic Neue and it’s free. It’s familiar and friendly, just like the original, but also comes in two variants; Comic Neue and Comic Neue Angular (and all the basic weights; light, regular, bold, and oblique).
What’s Comic Neue look like?
See? Isn’t Comic Neue more like Comic Sans meets the 21st century? Clean, elegant, friendly, a bit more sophisticated yet still with that playful flavor of the original.
And, Comic Neue comes with 90-percent less hate.
