You would think that something as time honored as writing a check would be easily handled by your Mac. Some Mac money management apps let you print checks but if all you want to do is have your Mac do the work, the options are slim to slimmer.
Start with Check Writer, the Mac App Store app that seems to be the most normal check writer app. This one prints checks and an accompanying letter. It even prints the special characters at the bottom of a check that banks seem to like. There’s a built-in register to track expenses and deposits from the account attached to the check.
Check Writer makes it child’s play to drop in payer information, change number and date, set the amount, add backing information including account number and routing number.
Printed checks look just like those from the bank, and even better if you use check refill paper.
The built-in text editor works well to create an accompanying letter with each check.
One hand feature is Check Writer’s ability to write out the amount automatically, a primary cause of checks with mistakes– the numerical amount doesn’t match the written amount.
Unfortunately, Check Writer seems to want to print one check at a time. For this price there should be an option to print multiple checks in sequence.
My personal preference is Check Writer, but the Mac App Store has others with lower price tags. Unfortunately, reviews are abysmal. In this case you get what you pay for.
