Apple builds in Screen Sharing so we can manage one Mac remotely from another Mac. VNC apps do the same thing between Mac, PC, and from iPhone, iPad or even Android devices. For Mac users on a budget, there’s WiFi Mouse, a free app to control your Mac from your iPhone or iPad. All you need to make it happen is the free Mouse Server app for you Mac.
What you get is a way to turn the iPhone or iPad into a wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad (using the WiFi Mouse app for iOS or Android). So, type on your iPhone and have it type email on the Mac (or, Windows PC).
The benefit here isn’t the list of features. Any decent VNC screen sharing app will do far more. On a local wireless network connection WiFi Mouse enables left and right click support, scrolling, remote keyboard input, fullscreen keyboard, even speech-to-text.
Even gestures are supported from the iPhone or iPad direct to the Mac– tap-to-click, two finger tap and scroll, pinch to zoom, and others.
Why bother with the one-two punch of WiFi Mouse and Mouse Server? Price.
VNC screen sharing apps have a larger feature list, yes, but also a price tag to match. Mouse Server is free, and there’s a free version of WiFi Mouse for both iPhone and iPad.
