How many files are on your Mac? Most of us don’t care, and unless we run an app that scans and counts files we’d never find out. What’s the advantage of knowing how many files you have? Not much, but knowing how many files and where they are will give you a better understanding of your Mac’s file hierarchy and could save you some disk space.
Only a handful of Mac apps can scan your storage and give you a decent view and report of the files and hierarchy. If money is an object and you’re on a budget then start with AllAboutFiles, an inexpensive Mac file counter app. It counts files, yes, and it’s fast, but it does more.
AllAboutFiles displays the file hierarchy on your Mac in a Finder-like interface so you can see which folders have which files, how many files, and where they’re located.
This neat utility scans all the files and folders on your Mac or any connected storage volume. Or, you can point it to scan a folder of files to get an accurate count of files and the total storage being used.
Select any folder or file and AllAboutFiles displays basic details about each– name, file size, file count. And, the files can be sorted.
This isn’t an app that you’ll use often but when you need to know about files and storage totals it’s good to have on your Mac.
