At least once a month I’ll discover a Mac app that does something in a better, easier, faster, less expensive way. This week it’s UnCluster. The name doesn’t make much sense but what it does is a few simple functions we all need from time to time. And it’s free.
UnCluster puts an app in the Menubar. One click opens a dropdown menu with options to Sleep your Mac, Clean the Desktop, Show the Desktop, Hide or Show Desktop Icons, Unhide invisible apps. Hide visible apps. And, Quit All Apps (at the same time).
If you’re at all like most Mac users, then you have plenty of apps open and that creates window clutter. UnCluster can hide apps so all you see is the Desktop (nothing removes window clutter faster).
Apple builds into the Mac plenty of little features that most of us don’t know about, but clever app developers can use to add extra functionality. A good example is the selection to Hide or Show Desktop Icons (good to create a clean Desktop picture without clutter).
If you’re running a Mac with half a dozen or more open apps, Quit All Apps gets your Mac ready for shut down much faster than the one-at-a-time method. What UnClutter needs is a Quit All Apps and Shutdown option.
But, all things considered, not bad for free.
