Do you ever wonder what inspires a developer to create a Mac app? For some, it’s practice. They’re learning to be a programmer. For others, it’s money. The financial incentive can be strong. Other developers use the age old, ‘Necessity is the mother of invention‘ approach, and create an app that does something that needs to be done.
For those of us who cherish freeware, there’s PhotoStickies. This app is a little of what we think it is, and a little more. First, put your favorite photos on the Mac’s Desktop as stickies– floating or borderless.
Wait. There’s more.
PhotoStickies can display live web cams on your Desktop, update them automatically, and even record the web cam as a video, similar to a DVR or VCR. It’s a good way to watch traffic cams, weather cams, or nanny cams while you work.
Setting up PhotoStickies is straightforward, too. General Preferences include the location of the photo or web cam, mode, recording option, refresh interval, and size of each stickie.
It’s a good way to have regularly refreshed web videos available on your Mac’s screen, including security cameras. The app developer has other free apps here.
