What price cool? Most of us think we’re in with the cool factor simply by being Mac users. One way to cool up your Mac is by having a unique screensaver. These days they’re inexpensive and come if a variety of styles and images.
Apple’s System Preferences > Desktop & Screensaver Options are nice but don’t really give you many options. RandomExtra is a Mac tool that manages your screen savers.
Huh? Say what? I need a tool to manage my screensavers?
This is especially useful if you have many screensavers on your Mac and have difficulty settling on just one.
Yes, RandomExtra treats iPhoto photo albums as screensavers, too.
The whole idea behind RandomExtra appears to be, well, randomness. You select which screensavers you want, assign a priority to each, and the app cycles between them randomly.
If you have a multi-screen Mac or a Mac notebook with a separate display, RandomExtra can assign specific screensavers to each screen.
What you don’t get, of course, are more screensavers. What you get is control over your Mac’s basic screensavers and those that can be created in iPhoto.
What I’d like to see in RandomExtra is less random and more control. For example, a way to allow some screensavers to run at certain times during the day or night.
Otherwise, a decent, dependable app that’s priced right. It’s free.
