Mac apps fall into two categories. Useful apps that perform work. Those that don’t. Cosmographia falls into the latter. It’s a Mac solar system simulation app that’s packed with stunning 3D images and uses real data to position planets, moons, and more.
I Want To Believe (what’s out there)
Think of Google Earth but not on earth. It’s a highly graphic look of where the earth lives; the earth and the neighborhood.
You’ll see the earth, spacecraft, moons, other planets, all in remarkably clear simulation.
That’s a close up view of Jupiter. Now look at a view from farther away.
Some views are difficult to describe, but a picture is always worth at least a few hundred words.
The detail of the simulation looks absolutely cool. You’ll see shadows where shadows should be (asteroid belts, Saturn rings, etc. There are similar (and less expensive) apps available for Mac, iPhone, and iPad, such as Solar Walk, Solar System Planets, and Cosmic Crawler.
