Apple needs Microsoft’s CEO, Steve Ballmer
Wednesday, April 30, 2008
As much as Apple needed and needs co-founder Steve Jobs manning the bridge on the Mac maker’s ship of state, Jobs owes Microsoft founder Bill Gates a debt of gratitude. One of the best things to happen to Apple in the past eight years as been the reign of Microsoft’s CEO, Steve Ballmer. His missteps, miscues, and misguided muscle help Apple every day.

Just as Churchill vetoed several plans to send in squads to assassinate Hitler - he was more useful to the Allies where he was - interfering with the otherwise competent Generals, and wrecking any chance of success.
Does Steve have any assassination squads I wonder?

I never gave it much thought, but can anyone tell me what success Microsoft has had beyond the original Holy Trinity of Windows, Office, and Exchange?
It seems to me that they’ve lost money on Xbox360 and the Zune and every other venture in recent memory.

Miss Kate, you are spot on. Apple’s best friend these days is Microsoft. Apple seems to care so much and Microsoft seems to care so little. Customers. Products. Laws.
Your analogy of Microsoft burning for a few more years is also appropriate. That’s what Apple wants. Microsoft will continue to be profitable and lose market share and mind share and then, when someone wakes up and smells the burnt toast, it will be too late to fumigate the house.
Well said.
