ScreenFlick records your Mac’s screen
If you’re an educator, teacher, instructor, trainer, manager, or an executive who likes to show off, you have room on your Mac for ScreenFlick. Capture and record any part of your Mac’s screen, in any size, save it as a QuickTime movie for email, web pages, instruction video, or PowerPoint presentations.
Capture Me, Elmo?
Screen captures on the Mac are nothing new, having warmed the hearts of our cave-dwelling Mac ancestors seemingly centuries ago in the prehistoric Age of DOS.
The trick is knowing how to make the Mac capture screen snippets, and then knowing what to do with them.
Screenflick features high performance screen capturing for smooth, fluid motion up to 30 fps. Screenflick can record any portion of the screen, simultaneously recording audio from internal or external microphones and the system audio.
ScreenFlick is a movie capture version of screen capture. It captures parts of your screen as a movie.
Keep It Simple, Stupid
Despite a baker’s dozen utilities which will do it for me, I’ve always had difficulty remembering the keystroke combinations to invoke a screen capture.
ScreenFlick makes capturing your Mac’s screen as a movie, well, easy as American Pie. A small icon appears in the Mac’s Menubar. Click it, and select Start Recording.
The rest is even more simple.
Why Screen Capture?
Once you’ve captured a few screens you’ll see the magic it creates. Sometimes it’s easier to show people what to do, rather than do it again and again and again.
An excellent utility for software screencasters and software trainers, Screenflick offers the ability to display keyboard commands, and highlights mouse clicks to better communicate which actions are being performed during screen recording.
Let pictures speak thousands of words (click on the image for a close up view).
Select which microphone you want to use to record audio while ScreenFlick records the video of what you do on your Mac while you’re doing it.
Screen preferences are equally simple. Change the capture rate, let Screen Flick follow your mouse around the screen. Next.
Something Different
ScreenFlick does a few things different than other video screen capture applications.
There are times you want to record the Mouse Cursor onscreen, and ScreenFlick makes it easy to see what is happening with an effect at the tip of the pointer when the mouse is clicked.
Screenflick allows you to record a movie once and compress it as many times as you want at different resolutions, qualities, and with or without audio, offering you the maximum amount of flexibility when choosing which presentation options to offer to movie viewers.
Preferences
Under the mantra of simple is better, Preferences are easy.
Movies can be saved and exported in varying sizes for email, embedding in PowerPoint or Keynote displays, and for iPod and iPhone, as well as standalone movies perfect for training and instruction.
I like ScreenFlick and plan to use it for future movies in NoodleMac. It’s easier to use, though with fewer settings, than iShowU, and more accessible than the popular SnapxProX.
